One region, four markets: planning a campaign across East and Southern Africa
A single regional plan rarely works as written. Here is how we build campaigns that travel, without pretending every market is the same.
Regional briefs usually arrive with one budget, one idea and one deadline. The temptation is to write one plan and translate it. In our experience, the idea can travel; the plan almost never does.
Keep the idea, localise the plan
Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa and Zambia differ in how people use mobile money, which platforms they spend time on, which languages they respond to and how retail works. A promotion that runs on USSD in one market may need WhatsApp or a microsite in another.
The idea is regional. The execution is local. The measurement is shared.
Three things to decide up front
- Which outcomes matter, defined the same way in every market.
- Where local teams can change the plan, and where they cannot.
- How fast results come back, so budget can move to what is working.
Budget for listening
Social listening and media monitoring in each market tell you early whether the idea is landing. It is cheaper to adjust in week two than to explain a miss in the wrap report.
